The most sweeping change to our income tax laws since 1986 happened with the new Tax Cuts and Jobs Act passed in late 2017 and early 2018. The revisions and clarification are still being made as we speak and we may not know about many changes until much later in 2019 so revised tax returns are most likely. Alternative Minimum Tax has finally been repealed. Corporations are celebrating the reduction of the higher tax rates imposed in the last administration from a graduated scale of 15% to 35% lowered down to a flat rate of 21%, the lowest since 1939. For personal tax returns the changes might seem daunting but simplification has been the goal. Lower personal tax rates and the repeal of the Alternative Minimum Tax should make most taxpayers happy.
