A Checklist To An Easy Tax Preparation

At Roberts & Roberts Tax & Accounting, LLC, we understand that preparing your tax statements can be quite a challenge. Understanding the process and finalizing the documentation required can be viewed as a stressful or laborious task, but with a little preparation, you can handle your tax preparation quickly and easily.

As experts in accounting and tax preparation, we’ve created a handy checklist to help you complete your taxes with as little stress as possible. To help make the process a smooth one, we have put together a list of things that you must do.

1. Schedule an appointment.

Make your appointment early to allow enough time for a free interview about your tax situation.

2. Are you a new client?

If you are a new client, please bring in the last two years of tax returns.

3. Are you a business client?

If you’re a business client, bring in a profit or loss statement for year-end, a beginning and ending balance sheet, list of purchases of equipment over $500.00, a list of amortized (depreciated) equipment, and if you’re a new business client, along with the above documents, please bring in the last three years of tax returns.

4. Carry these important documents.

a. All documents stating any earnings and money you received, W-2, All 1099-XXXX, along with a manual list of funds received during the tax year.

b. Any investment-related documents at year end, stocks and bond sales and property sales with basis (we can help you with this).

c. Property tax documents, Mortgage Statements listing the property and type of structure, Contributions list (if over $500 in donations you must have Fed ID#, Letter from Donee, Cancelled checks or credit card statements), Medical miles, All medical bills showing paid expenses by check , CC, or Cash Payments). This is a basic list, for your personalized list, please set up a free appointment.

5. Rental documents.

If you have rentals, please bring in a total received, expenses incurred, amortization schedules, etc.

6. Official correspondence.

Carry along any correspondence from the Federal Government ( IRS, Social Security Adm, etc.) or NM Taxation and Revenue.

7. List of family members.

A list of each family member you are claiming with DOB, Relationship, SS#, and any earnings they received.
